A job mela for direct recruitment of women who have passed 8th STD will be held at Vallalar grounds here on July 25.According to Collector P. Amudha, candidates interested in obtaining placements in private firms in Hosur, Salem, Coimbatore and Tirupur could participate in the job mela.

Eligible candidates should produce their original and attested copies of their mark sheets at the mela.

She said private firms interested in recruiting candidates should contact the Employment Office in person to confirm about their participation and also about the vacancies.

The whole exercise is being undertaken free of cost for both the employers as well as the employees, the statement added.She noted that finding a job in the private sector through the Employment Exchange would neither deprive the candidate of their registration nor their seniority at the Exchange.

Talking library for visually impaired

Lions Club of Coimbatore by joining hands with the Bharatiyar University has set up a unique audio library for the visually impaired students considering how much these students struggle to get study material in Braille for higher studies.  The venture known as ‘Talking Library’ boasts of nearly a thousand recorded audiocassettes on various subjects for the benefit of the visually handicapped pursuing college and post graduation studies.

Visually challenged students have found this library very useful. They spend hours at the CD and record players machines listening to books, periodicals and their course materials.”I had come to this talking library for the first time and this talking library is a boon to the visually challenged persons like us. Generally, people with normal eyesight can easily access or go to any library and can also refer any kind of books but we can study only what is being taught to us in our class,” Ponnuswamy, Visually challenged student.

“Moreover this kind of talking library is very useful to all our brothers and sisters to refer various books and notes studying for M.A, M.Phil, Ph.D etc. This is really useful to us and in future we can also compete in the world equal to normal people and come up in life,” he added.

“It is for the first time with the help of Lions club they (Bharatiyar University) is initiating this scheme here. All the people have liked the CDs and audio cassette recordings which are not monotonous like Braille. So we have plans to create one more recording system in Coimbatore and want to thank the Lion’s Club,” said Subbulakshmi.It is estimated that 33.3 million of the world’s visually impaired people live in developing countries and more than half of the world’s blind live in India (nine million), Africa (seven million) and China (six million). Hansen Transmission to set up RS 1500 Crores project near Coimbatore

Hansen Transmissions International N.V. (LSE ticker ‘HSN’), an established global gearbox designer, manufacturer and supplier with a leading position in the wind turbine gearbox market, announced that its Indian-based subsidiary Hansen Drives Ltd., has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu. This MoU outlines the establishment of a manufacturing facility for wind turbine gearboxes at Karumathampatty, near Coimbatore, involving an investment of Rs 1500 Crores (270 million Euros) over a period of 5 years.

Hansen’s 61 acre facility is being developed at the Hi Tech Engineering Special Economic Zone, Coimbatore, promoted by Suzlon Infrastructure Limited, part of the  Suzlon Group. The plant, which is expected to provide employment for more than 800 people by the end of 2010, envisages manufacturing gearboxes for 1.5 to 3.0 MW wind turbines.  Hansen plans to reach full production capacity in the financial year 2012. The total installed capacity will be 2500 gear units per annum (1.5 to 3.0 MW), corresponding to an output of 5000 MW per year.

Hansen’s factory in India will apply the same production installations, processes and methodology used in its Belgian plants in Lommel and Edegem.

Anna University, Coimbatore, and Infospectrum India Private Limited, Chennai, jointly launched a centre to conduct the SAP Business One Training Programme for graduates and students, here recently.

Cal Kailasam, Vice-President, Infospectrum, said: “In order to meet the increasing demand of SAP B1 consultants such courses will help students get equipped and will make available a readymade pool of resources. SAP certified trainers will train the students. Certification will be by SAP Germany.”

Airtel launches ‘Dial a post-paid’ scheme in Coimbatore

In an effort to ease out the process for its prepaid subscribers to switch over to postpaid services, Airtel launched ‘dial a post paid’ scheme through which subscribers can avail a postpaid connection with all formalities completed at the doorstep.

The scheme comes under a rental of Rs.400 with local calls charged at 50 paise and STD calls at Re.1. Subscribers will also get 800 local minutes and 800 local SMS free.

The scheme is open to existing as well as new users.

Echanari temple

This temple is located on Pollachi road, 10 kms from Coimbatore. The kumbabishekam was performed in 1990.The temple was built in 1500 A.D. The sthalapuranam states that this diety was taken to be installed at Perur Patteshwarar temple from Madurai. On its way, at Eachanari, the programme had to be terminated and the place got blessed by installing the diety here. The deity stands 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide.
