Coimbatore, Nov 6: To create awareness about cancer, a city hospital will be conducting a two-day exhibition here from November nine in association with the cancer institute at Adyar in Chennai.
Exhibits would include study material on detection and treatment of cancer, ill-affects of smoking and ways to stop it and on chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Dr P Guhan, chief of Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research, told reporters here today.
The exhibition, being held as part of the National Cancer Awareness day tomorrow, will display details on breast cancer, blood cancer, heart cancer and cancer in children.
Two lakh pamphlets would be distributed in Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Erode districts, through 800 NSS volunteers of Bharathiar University, he said.
Nearly eight lakh persons die each year due to tobacco use in India, he said, adding that over 40 per cent of cancer patients are smokers. (Agencies)
