Singapore Airlines is increasing its daily flights to Indian Cities. Currently they are running at a capacity of 70% – 80% and they are anticipating more passenger traffic with burgeoning Middle Class in Tier II cities as well. Silk Air, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines is adding Coimbatore to its destination cities. There will be a direct flight between Coimbatore and Singapore with this low cost airline. There is no timetable set for this yet but all indications are it will happen in this calender year.
Getting new Airlines is a very good news but we need to improve the coimbatore airport a lot to handle International traffic. With the retail boom hitting India in all directions and the roads are what they are , it is going to be air cargo that will help the big retailers to do a quick turnaround on goods and the airports should be able to handle that as well in the near future.
