  15. Thanks Anand for the news on the online booking. I feel Agents are cheaper to book with, not sure, the best is to try both.

  16. It’s great news. Waiting for the schedule so that we can book flight rather than Chennai or Bangalore. We have to connect from Tokyo to Singapore and coimbatore. If the silkair announce there schedule it would be helpful.

Though Coimbatore does not have much people travelling to South East Asia, I feel that flights to UAE, Germany, UK and USA will be commencing from Coimbatore due to it’s business links with that part of the World.

  21. I am extremely happy that SILKAIR is going to operate direct flight from SINGAPORE TO coimbatore from 28th.oct.07.Hitherto my daughter and her family had to come from Madras after catching the next immediate flight to Coimbatore, which resulted in a day being wasted. Now this is gone and most COIMBATOREANS will also feel happy.

  23. It’s a really welcome news for NRI like me.Coimbatoe being my home town, we visit Cbe every year on holidays and the hassle of reaching coimbatore through SIN-CHENNAI-CBE route is avoided now.

  30. SriLankan flights to Coimbatore

    Our Bureau

New Delhi, Oct. 3 SriLankan Airlines is to start a four-times-a-week flight between Coimbatore and Colombo from 29 October this year.

Initially, the flight would be operated on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday with an Airbus A-320 aircraft. The launch would see SriLankan Airlines operate to 11 cities in India.

  31. I heard that the kerala politicians are obstacle the coimbatore flight services

  32. Not kerala politicians. Officers in Civil aviation department who are from kerala are delaying and dragging the expansion work of coimbatore airport . They and Kerala airports officials met Silkair offcials to operate the flight between Kozhikode instead of coimbatore. They projected that coimbatore is not a profitable route. This shows clearly the parasitism of the kerala peoples. They are exploiting all wealths of tamilnadu and suck the blood of tamilians in all means. Shame on them.

  33. Silk air service is great news for coimbatoreans and people around coimbatore. I am taking the inagural flight from singapore to coimbatore on the 28th of october. The return fare is 535 singapore dollars. However, when i tried to book tickets for my family from coimbatore to singapore ( one way). I was shocked to know that the one way fare cost Rs. 20,0000 and a return somewhere around Rs. 28.000. This is crazy. I can very well travel by jet airways for half this fare from chennai.

  34. Shree go ahead and pay half price and travel to Chennai. I shall be paying the double price to go to Coimbatore.

  35. Hi
Here is some good news about coimbatore. But authorities are not doing anything to improve the amenities and infrastructure of coimbatore airport.

  39. Traveled from JFK (through Singapore) to Coimbatore in July 2008. Enjoyed flying in Silk air from Singapore (full flight, great service). I heard that Silk air is planning to increase the frequency to Coimbatore.

  40. Will be nice Sundaram if Silk Air increases services to CJB, then, we could have more options on which day to travel on.

  41. I read your blog for a long time and must tell that your articles are always valuable to readers.
p.s. Year One is already on the Internet and you can watch it for free.

  42. Fly Dubai to fly from Dubai to Coimbatore from 14 July, 2009 thrice a week

    Source : http://www.flydubai.com/FlydubaiTest/wherewefly.aspx

  43. Fly Dubai started bookings on its website. Cheap fares.
    http://flydubai.com/
Many Tiruchi people already started buying. i think Madurai, kochi and calicut people are also buying tickets quickly.

    • Verymuch happy to know people from Tiruchi,Madurai,Kochi and Calicut booked tickets. How did you come to know that, only people from Trichy,Madurai,Kochi and calicut have booked their tickets.. have you booked it for all?? Why Should people from Kochi and Calicut book tickets for travelling through Coimbatore as there are more number of flights to Dubai from their own airports. Talk sensibly. Thankyou for dragging again Trichy and Madurai in discussion about Coimbatore.

  44. Mr Shyam,
My friend from Palakkarai has just booked two seats for his parents to fly to Dubai by Flydubai, next month. Now, not only I know some Kochi and Calicut people,Ii also know some Tiruchi people who are flying from Coimbatore.
Sensibly speaking, the cheap flights get booked out at Calicut and Kochi so people from there book many available cheap Coimbatore flights.
I dont know whats the problem with you.
    Are you insane?

    • It is well known that guys from Trichy often create problems in other city threads by dragging Trichy and Madurai into the picture and I have noticed it in many forums. I thought the same thing is done by you here. And now I am not blamming you, I very well know about healthy discussions done by you for which people think that, you are from Madurai. And I was about to say, very few bookings will be done from Cochin and Calicut from where frequencies to UAE are more.

  45. Ok Thank you Mr Shyam for making me understand better now.
You are right. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

  46. Bahrain Air to expand in India

Bahrain Air is looking to expand its footprints in towns and cities such as Trichy, Delhi, Coimbatore, Mangalore and Nagpur, among others, to tap travellers to the Middle East. V R Santosh, country manager India, said on Tuesday, “We have plans to expand operations from (Trichy, Mangalore and Delhi) but can only do so after the government’s approval.”

The carrier also started daily flights between Mumbai and Bahrain, its third connection after Calicut and Cochin.

Santosh said, “There is enough labour traffic from these towns travelling to the Middle East and we expect to get good load factors.” From Calicut and Cochin, it gets loads factors of 70-75%, he added. Even in these times of slowdown, the Middle East sector is one of the most profitable. Many airlines have started services on the sector.

While bigger carriers such as Etihad Airways and
Emirates Airlines are the major operators on the sector, new airlines such as Air Arabia also connect Indian cities to the Middle East. Domestic carriers like Jet Airways and Kingfisher, too, are looking to increase services on this sector.

Bahrain Air is positioning itself as a low-cost airline that also offers premium class seats. This, the airline expects, will differentiate its services. “There is a possibility of low cost structure and lower fares in premium class as well, which is what we are exploring,” said Bart C J Schellens, director (commercial operations), Bahrain Air.

  47. happy news in covai people so comein trchy al so

  48. This has reference to a flight I was on from Singapore to Coimbatore: Silkair MI 458 which arrived at around 11.30 pm IST on the 4th of April.
I have travelled very many times, but this was the FIRST time that the technician at the scanner used a permanent blue marker on my handbag- a Jimmy Choo bag, worth a lot of money. When I questioned him about why he was making marks all over my bag, he kept silent, and continued damaging my bag. There was no problem with the customs on my leaving the airport.
After arriving home- which is in Kodaikanal, where I teach at Kodaikanal International School, I tried to remove the marks- first with soap and water, then with kerosene, and finally with turpentine. However, to my dismay the stains are still visible.
How can this kind of callous behaviour be condoned? I expect to hear from you about what action you are going to take?

  49. The Hindu reports that Civil aviation ministry has approved a new airport for Karaikal. A big airport. I think it will have international flights as well because the runway is going to be 12000 ft. It will benefit Pondicherry, Nagore and Vailankanni travellers.
Madurai airport will see international flights soon as well.
