- 4 IT parks with with 3.5 lakh sqft area have already been completed.
- 3 more IT parks at 3.25 lakh sq.ft area are under construction.
- 10 more are proposed with 9.25 Lakh Sq. Ft
- The KG group has acquired 160 acres near its existing campus on Thudiyalur road (near Saravanampatti) for developing it as ITES and BPO Special Economic Zone.
- ELCOT has identified 109 acres in the Bharathiar University campus itself for the proposed BU-ELCOT city.
- Two Malls with 2.5 Lakh Sq. Ft area and Six more on pipeline with 4.2 lakh Sq. Ft.
- Two major townships — Sahara Township and Metro Corp Monte Visa are coming up.
- More than 20 major residential units, totally with 3,000 apartments, are expected to get completed in the next three years.

Palakkad Town-Shornur Link, 2.Pollachi-UdumalPettai-Palani-Didukkal, 3.Tiruppur-Erode-Karur/Namakkal/Salem, 4. Hope this has to be given an integrated approach will develop all the three states Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka.
While we are very happy to see the developments taking place in our city, it is high time that infrastructure/logistics tasks are carried out on a war footing. Roads are already choking now. Good roads, multiple fly overs, good transportation system such as metro/mono rail, good water system, green city, good underground drainage, good telecommunication/broadband connectivity across the city (before the roads/developments take place – so that no digging is needed later), hi-tech (computerised) public utilities (BSNL, EB, BUS SERVICE, etc.) should take place on a war footing. The infrstructure should be planned/implemented keeping in mind the developments that will take place in the next 50-100 years and not looking at the current requirements alone. And it should be ensured that the beauty/calmness of this city should be maintained through all these developments.
Are these development actvities real or just for show off?. Because infrastructure in coimbatore is in very bad shape. No one thinks about it. A Subway in Gandhipuram signal has been in talks level for more than two decades.Airport modernisation and runway expansion is in talks level fora decade.No need to say railway projects, North coimbatore – Irugur doubling line work is dragging for past ten years. Railways in coimbatore is misused by selfish Kerala officers for long long time.
So all these developments are virtual until infrastructure in coimbatore is improved.

10 years before, even Pune also like that of Coimbatore, Now u cant compare pune with Coimbatore, Maharastra government transformed that small city into vibrant city today,But here there is no intiatives from state government for the develoment of coimbatore,Pune is having 5 Car Units(tatas,Benz,GM,etc..) & see the development in IT sector ,it had crossed 10000 Crores in IT exports . Even after that ,if government is not taking any steps in infrastructure by decongesting the Roads, This is the Right time that government can plan for metro Rail System ,that will bring huge investments in to the city,Allow foreign airlines to start Linking with international destination,that will bring Business visitors,Tourists, etc….But I dont know when this will happen.
The News is good to hear. There is no politics supports like Madurai so Present Government have neglement in Budget to develop Infrastructure.

I am very happy to see that the city of coimbatore is developing rapidly. But it still needs a lot of backing. One of the key factors is its infrastructure. More foreign companies and more tourists would tend to come if its infrastructure is good.
The other things that the city should improve upon is underground drainage system,pollution,traffic rules and regulations,car parking facilities,airport modernization,allowing more foreign airlines, improvement and widening of roads and cleanliness in the city.
When I was in Singapore I could see a lot of colorful plants and trees planted on either side of the road and in the middle, in every nook and corner of the city. I wish I could see this in Coimbatore too which would really make the city more attractive and appealing and full of greenery.
I am sure if Coimbatore caters to everything, then definitely it could become one of the best and attractive hot spots in India with its rapid IT development.

I am a businessman in coimbatore,the developments in coimbatore are mindblowing. Cotton city is changing into an Information Technology city.We have the best climate,Sweetest water,always maintain the ground water level.In next two years buying an asset in coimbatore will be a tough task.

I wouldsay one thing, coimbatore is having all the potential to grow. but our infrastructure is not upto the mark. if you see townhall, it is one of the main part in coimbatore.. but there is no proper control on traffic, no plan in EB lines (EB line’s are laid across the road which may disturb the high height transporting vehicles) there are all just an example.. so the government should take some action to improve the infrastructure. then the investments come easily.

How far is the conversion of Avinashi road to a six-lane road?
How far is Tidel park near medical college?
How about flyovers at Hope College?
What is the status of airport expansion? how about land acquisition? What are the areas that are affected?
I heard of twin software villages – Kalapatti and Saravanpatti. Is that true? Has it started?
I also heard that many other private IT parks are coming up?
What are the big ones that are worth mentioning?
Last but not least, Is the government -both central and state doing enough to let the city boom?

But I thing MADURAI will have the better future than Coimbatore in the future as the conditions favouring MADURAI all the way.
The only aspect by which Coimbatore overtook MADURAI some years bask is by INDUSTRIALIZATION & Employment.
But at present condition – Though Madurai still has no good response from the manufacturig industries – It seems to be a IT Hub like Bangalore/Chennai in the near future.
NASSCOM identified Madurai as the 3rd best place in India to do the IT/ITes business and also they exposed that Over 40% of the IT employees working in the Bangalore/Chennai & Hyderabad IT Parks are from Madurai & Madurai – bounded districts.
At present Madurai is losing over 40,000 graduates every year migrating to other cities due to unemployment who’re all will return home & add strength to Madurai.
Already ELCOT is developing a 270 Acres IT SEZ with IT Gaints such as HCL, Satyam Computers , Sutherland Global services etc.,
TIDEL Park is also comingup in Madurai by ELCOT & TIDCO with some major players……
RR Industries who is going to be the base for the Madurai’s future growth is developing the TN’s biggest IT SEZ in over 800 Acres with major IT gaints such as Flextronics ltd., WIPRO etc.,
PEARLS IT city and Dhaya Cyber park are also coming up by private players.

According to me – I am related to both the CBE and Madurai by birth and I’ll be happy if both the cities develops …. By my guess & vision – MADURAI seems to have a bright future than CBE in near future…. Also I ‘ll not excite if Madurai overtook CBE in near days….
Anyway Longlive CBE & MDU – CBE corporation should see for avoiding the major drawbacks going to happen in future….It should find the ways to avoid its loss to Madurai now itself or otherwise MDU will show its potential….

Foreign investers doesn’t invest money for city infrastructure. Obiviously the would make double the money with in short period. they are here not for madurai infrasrtucture developments.

i am happy to see the developments in madurai but u should not degrade a city like this. i am not from madurai or coimbatore but i watch the developments in both cities. feb issue of frontline clearly illustrates the power of cbe. the main plus of cbe is self development. there are no politicians to support cbe but still it has developed. it is due to the thirst for industrialisation of the people here.(eg. CODISSIA is the largest and most active of its kind in India)
both cities are in TN only and it will be good for TN if both develop. please have a positive attitude.

I am a NRI, when I visited Coimbatore R.S.Puram DB road was going thru drainage improvements. I watched in dismay how in broad day light the contractors are cheating on the concrete mixture. Those drainage will not stand more than one or two years. We need honest local public oversee committees.
I also came to know that Siruthuli project could not make much progress due to local politicians.
I wish encroachments on waterways be removed and those dwellers are given decent alternative by the city.
I think i saw there was more garbage in the streets than my last visit in 2000.
Like in US, the developers should pay for added traffic and the raod improvements should be the Developers expense.
There should be a strict rule that any waste water from any property should not reach street flood water drains.
When I was growing up in Coimbatore in 1960s the city was clean and flowers on the road and no waste water stagnation along the streets. AND no mosquito problems!
The City water tasted like “amirtham”.

Singapore-based Ascendas said Wednesday one of its private development funds will invest in a S$290 million development project in Coimbatore, India.
The 50-50 joint venture between Ascendas India Development Trust and IREO, another fund, will develop the 53-acre site over six to seven years, Ascendas said in a statement.
The project includes a special economic zone and other space for residential and commercial developments.

A small suggession: there shouldbe a forum promotes and markets the city as an admirable. Like, how Dubai was promoted, how Bangalore was promoted.

Though there are many proposals, the local authorities are not very serious about the developmants under JNNURM. Many states have already implemented; but Coimbatore lacks in even preparing the projects. By this tjie, they should have subkitted and obtained funds; but they re delayed for reasons unknown. At this rate, they are likely to forfeit the grant under JNNURM and all works would be stand still.

Very interesting to see the developments of Coimbatore. A truly self grown city,unlike Madurai. However, I wish to comment on Mr Udayamurthies data on the comparison of the following with other cities in TN.

No in Madurai, Not required.
3.CMC
Aravind Eye Hospital..
4.PSG Group copanies
Thiagarajar Group of Companies..
5. Pollachi Mahalingam Group
TVS Group of Companies
6. No. of Engineering Colleges
Not compared to CBE. But 3 Maduraiites run Engineering College in Coimbatore because of Kerala Students
7. Hospitals
AS many as possible. NOT MONEY SUCKING AS IN COIMBATORE
8. Air Traffic
Domestic Traffic is increasing from Madurai. International traffic will be higher in next two years from Madurai than from Coimbatore. Madurai are getting a world class Airport
9. Shopping Malls
Yea two or three in pipe line in Maduria as well
10.Tourist spots in and around
Many and more than coimbatore
11. Climate
Agreed, Coimbatore is good in this regard.
12. People culture.
Agreed, far better than Madurai

Yes, people live peacefully in Madurai

Only Keralites are more in CBE. Locals are quite less. Out of 60 people in a class 30 and odd are from kerala. Agreed?

Agreed, Coimbatore has better ones than madurai.
17. No. of IT/ITES/BPO companies in madurai and Kovai right now.
Agreed, But IT/ITES/BPO is only not the future of the city to grow.

what about vehicle trafic ? and car parking . Coimbatore Corporation must take care about this matter and also Drainage problem.
Coimbatore -Irugur doubling work is also too late.

To provide bus shelter in ALL BUS STOP.
To maintain clean & healthy in ALL PLACES.

I had been following the discussions in this site on Coimbatore. While the critcisms should be welcome, those with negative sentiments shall be discouraged. While it is natural to have an affinity towards cities where we are born or brought up, we all have to come out of the narrow circles of ones own cities. The nation’s all- round development is important for the improvement of living standardd of all of us and for that to happen all the cities in India should develop and all are free to adopt the city they like irrespective of language or region. Even though the city of Mumbai is having lot of problems due to over development or overpopulation, all those who are settled there for more time claim they are mumbaites irrespective of the states they originally hail from.
The fact is that with so much advertised developments coming in our cities, we are far behind when compared with cities in foreign countries.(Please do not compare undeveloped – look ahead).
It is good that developments are taking place in Coimbatore and Madurai. But all are very slow and lacking in perfection. Unless the quality is improved we will be lagging behind the Cities elsewhere and will find solace comparing with our nearby cities.
We coimbatoreans shall be a tredsetter in welcoming constructive criticisms on the planned developments and the situation in Coimbatore and so also in other cities.

living conditions,people,water,enterprunial sprit of kovai, even chennai can’t match kovai.
What We lack is political will and good politician to develope Kovai,if proper attention paid,Kovai will be a world class city

coimbtore has not been developed,according to it environment goverment should take care and implement some development technique, our tamilnadu goverment are taking a care about only a chennai,basically cbe is a textile city but nowadays textile mills are not providing a wealth to this city some of the mills are already closed here people of cbe are searching a job from neighouring city like tirupur,only tirupur contribuating a no of job opprtunities to the covai people,some of them are getting a job from banglore or chennai.most of them are not getting a job in coimbtore,becoz of factories are not situated and also don’t have a number of factory’s and infrastructure are not contribuating well in our city,such abroad company going across chennai,it is not suitable for delivering any occupation,so gov’t should take care about our coimbtore city they should provide some flexible to our covai people only educational instituation providing huge wealth here ,that’s why so many student’s coming from different states in coimbtore having a proper environment what indusrtlist expecting here,but they are refusing to start the concern here,before the partion of tirupur coimbtore was become a developed city,after the partion of tirupur,coimbtore has been developing city ,so we did’n’t attain our goal,most of the mill’s are goes to andhrapradesh,we should not belive only a mills all the time,instead of we can set up a IT company&no of factories around a city, if we do this environment we wil get some solution instead of one work.we want to change a coimbtore become a international city.

being a trichy based guy , its funny to see the debate between cbe nd mdu guys.
but from my point of view both the cities are developing in a good way…
but in the case of covai its purely a self sustaining city witout any considerable alms from govt .
but the fact u have to note down that the initial city population mainly comprises gowndars and naidus who were not tamilians by race ., they are the immigrants of the city but hats off to them ,
becoz they laid the path for the industrialisation in the area,
though madurai is one of the important cities of the state , it hasn’t boomed in any good development but unlike cbe it has good political support .

if covai gets some fine politician who can change the city a well planned one , really it’ll be rocking news
moreover the state govt should not sting to CHENNAI alone ….
u guys know that cbe is the highest revenue paying region of the state but all those money are laid as flyovers and constructions in and around the state capital…

One guy, went on even to state that gounders of Coimbatore are not tamilans! It shows how ingnorant these guys are.If Kongu vellalar are not the sons of the soil , this guy should explain the criteria for a qualified tamilian.He seems to be ignorant of history of KONGU MANDALAM.
It is better to collect all facts of current status of the cities and discuss objectively.

I think Coimbatore will overtake all cities. Why is Madurai poking its dirty nose in Coimbatore affairs. Nobody wants your hot dirty city. I remember reading Silapathikaram and it is mentioned that Madurai will never develop. Even Tiruchi is overtaking Madurai.
We in coimbatore are lucky ,good people, tasty water, good climate etc. we have waited for the govt to look at us and now govt is spending so much in developments for coimbatore.We in return will surely pay the rewards to them. tidel park will be ready in few months, scheme road for coimbatore to mettupalayam, record braking developments and new broad link roads in and around coimbatore, new parks in city, first class airport extension. We people in return will give the 100 % in developments in textiles, Engmeering, foundry, Real estate and construction, agriculture, and all sources of business to the government . coimbatore will be next to chennai in all aspects and support our tamilnadu govt in all ways.
At present, I am in Chennai. But my native is cbe and i always come to Coimbatore once in 3 months. Only few developments have been made there. When I see the Mettupalayam rd, my heart will be in pain to see that rd. Because there were no developments in that road for past many years. Still the road is in worst condition. But here in chennai, mostly there r rubber roads with big space. Also double side rd With advanced street lights(Mount Rd, Beach Rd etc…) and also so many advanced flyovers with excellent road and street lights. So, Government have to take steps to improve our city(COIMBATORE). Please take actions.

Let us forget those BACKBURNERS, which they are thinking in dreams of their cities that happened in our “Great Coimbatore”. Ya The TIDEL PARK of COIMBATORE, i am so happy when i heard that inauguration of CBE’s Tidel and Also Bigger than Chennai’s, like Chennai’s Tidel 1.2 Million Sq feet , Coimbatore’s Tidel 1.7 Million Sq Feet and some other aspects like these, But I like Chennai’s Tidel by lookwise.
And backburners are telling that, like these kind of IT parks are lot in Velachery, ya im accepting that but those tech parks are came after The Chennai’s Tidel Arrival. So Im sure that Here (CBE) also that will happen very soonly. Because gaints like Wipro, TCS, HCL, R.Bosch, Perot, CTS, Ford. etc were started their arena’s construction.
Here I’m telling that Coimbatore is only one city having comparison status with our Capital. And also alternative for Chennai, like Pune alternative for Mumbai.

All cities growing depends on the available source cbe & mdu growing different way. But one thing is cbe is fast growing then mdu. Due to climate,IT,Education & factory’s and settling the people from all over india .
Mdu also have tourism,Agri,shopping, so both cities have good potential to grow

our city airport becoming international airport every works were finished.
4 IT parks with with 3.5 lakh sqft area have already been completed.
3 more IT parks at 3.25 lakh sq.ft area are under construction.
10 more are proposed with 9.25 Lakh Sq. Ft
The KG group has acquired 160 acres near its existing campus on Thudiyalur road (near Saravanampatti) for developing it as ITES and BPO Special Economic Zone.
ELCOT has identified 109 acres in the Bharathiar University campus itself for the proposed BU-ELCOT city.
Two Malls with 2.5 Lakh Sq. Ft area and Six more on pipeline with 4.2 lakh Sq. Ft.

hi i am from dubai the govt has not seriously shown any plans to improve covai but still covai is booming in it own . As a financial city it has the potential more than chennai and banglore where politicians played a major role in non development . If you compare with dubai covai has the better infrastcutre in than dubai as you airways, road and railways even not availbale in dubai.Road people says dubai roads the practiallity is no rain in dubai oneday all will go down. Coimbatore has to mainly concentrate on investment climate and select the right politican with good fire power for it s city to see the best development in future

But here we are fighting for future and current developments in madurai & coimbatore will leave that. first naama Tamilan!! adhuku aporum dhan elamey so support for both cities equally as gain as much as newer ones rather than going it to chennai!
